Happy 5th Birthday HAYDEN! - yea it was back in Oct, i know -

This kid is TRUE BLUE! - Notice the blue "Y" on his cheek. I am waiting for the day when it gets us in trouble. He is very vocal about it and is also aware of the rival RED. Thanks to his DAD...and Filipe and Punu (his cousins are Ute fans.) Joshy is now getting the hang of it by yelling "Go Cougars" every chance he gets. It's pretty cute to see such a loud yell coming out of such a little guy. We painted Joshy's hair blue for the last big game of the year. His hair is so blond I was worried that it wasn't going to come out. That would have been fun! Sorry I don't have a pic of that...well maybe I do but it is lost on Rick's computer.

This was a first for Joshy - I was pretty impressed with his icecream cone eating skills. Hayden is old school but fun to watch none the less. It was the perfect way to end a stressful day. I love my boys and I am so grateful that I can laugh with them and enjoy being a kid again!

This was also a first - I have never had both kids in white shirts and ties before. Hayden is starting to cooporate and now thinks its cool to look like daddy. Thankfully Joshy went along with it too. I have this vision of them being best friends throughout their childhood and teenage years....I hope it comes true!

Joshy is such a little guy - nothing like Hayden was at this age. The difference in the boys sure makes life a little more interesting around here.

You should have seen the poor kid trying to get out of there....he he! Of course we did take him off the table first...and just in case you were wondering, he hasn't tried to climb in it again.

So I went to a RS dinner tonight and upon arriving home Rick told me of a conversation he had with Hayden just before bed. Background note: Hayden is really into learning new words.

Rick: Hayden you need to get your jammies on and get ready for bed ( he was laying on his bed in his undies)
Rick: Get ready for bed!
Rick: Hayden - get your pajamas on!
Hayden: I am too tired. I can't do it by myself.
Rick: Obviously!
Hayden: What does oberlously mean?
Rick: You mean obviously?
Hayden: Yeah

So Rick gave an explanation - its too long to post! Now fast forward an hour -

Hayden: Daddy I have got 3 animals to sleep with. Do you want one of my animals to sleep with?
Rick: No, I already have an animal to sleep with.
Hayden: You do? What animal?
Rick: Mommy!
Hayden: Daddy! Mommy is OBVIOUSLY not an animal!

Guess he learned quick! And I am glad somebody thinks I am an animal...

Some might enjoy this as much as Rick did...

Hayden's First Fieldtrip

So i guess it is safe to say that Hayden likes preschool. Who wouldn't with cool field trips to the FIRE STATION! Rick went too and they got to eat a sack lunch - which was a first for Hayden. I am not sure which he was more excited for - the fieldtrip or the sack lunch. He wanted to pack it at 7 am that morning. It was all I could do to make him wait. He also made sure I knew that DADDY was going with him and not me. I will admit, I was a little bummed. I like fire engines too! The last picture just makes me laugh. Of course all the kids but mine are standing there listening to the fireman explain how the fire truck works. Hayden had to be the one to touch it all and see how much he could climb on. What can I say? He is just like his dad..... ooops I was supposed to put mom - according to Rick. Well he should be typing this. Ha Ha So after it was over I asked him how it was and if he liked it. He said - not really. It was kinda boring. I guess we can cross firefighter off the list.

BYU vs UCLA

Here are a few pictures of Hayden and I as we were getting ready for the BYU vs UCLA game. We went with Sandi and had a good time. It was loud and we had to stand the whole time because are seats we in the student section so Hayden didn't have as much fun as he does when we sit with grandpa (and the rest of the old folk). The best thing of the day was (as you all know) BYU KILLED UCLA .

So he did it but he wasn't happy about it! He cried for a couple of days before it even started. He said he was going to miss me. Ohhhhh how cute! Once he got there he was fine which seems to be the common story among moms with new pre-schoolers. I wondered if I would be sad or a little bit sentimental about my baby going to school but all I can say is that I am so excited for him to have some new experiences. It is fun to watch him grow up. It is also nice to have an hour or two to spend just with Joshy. I think he is loving having ma ma and da da all to himself!

I think the shock is finally starting to wear off when I look at Hayden. Who knew he was so handsome under all that hair! I will say that I am not a fan of his current hair style but I don't want it as long as it was before. He told me he needs to keep it short so he can be ready to go on a mission. CUTE!

quick story - The other day he walked into our room and saw a lighter sitting on Rick's nightstand. Rick was laying on the bed. Hayden picks up the lighter and holds it in front of Rick's face and says, "How many times have I told you, DONT LEAVE THIS WHERE I CAN FIND IT. It is dangerous! "

He is such a smart kid and lots of fun too. Watching the Olympics with him has been very entertaining. He is ready to get a gold medal in every event and can't wait until he is 8 years old so he can watch them again. When we were walking through the church parking lot yesterday he saw the symbol on the trunk of an Audi and said - LOOK it is the Olympics!

Joshy is loving independence - what

and walk by himself and get his own food out of the fridge. He can't stand Hayden helping him do anything but it is so cute on the rare occasions that they play together and are laughing. His favorite thing to do is bark like a dog and also say "DADUH, MOMMA, HAHAHAHAHA!" Oh ya and how could I forget - the word NO !!! Ask him anything and that is his response. He will even shake his head and sometimes give you the evil eye. How can a cute little guy look so mean? I will have to find a picture of it for the next post. It always makes us laugh.

So yesterday was a pretty eventful day. Hayden woke up with a raging earache. Rick and I were trying to comfort him while Joshy was playing in the kitchen. We are not sure what happened...he was crying, I went to see what was wrong, and there was blood everywhere. He split his lip and bruised his check. We decided to take them both the the doctor. Brave Rick got to do it since I had an appointment elsewhere that I couldn't miss. He enlisted my mom to help him. Joshy needed 1 stitch and Hayden had an ear infection. I wish this was the end of the story. So later that afternoon Joshy developed a fever of 102 and was so lethargic and his check was extremely swollen too. We were worried that he was having a bad reaction to the numbing shot or something like that. We had to take him back to the doctor. They checked him out and said he had a mild ear infection but a terrible sore throat. Poor little guy. Thank goodness for Tylenol!!!

Our Trip to AZ

We finally made it back after a couple of years to AZ. One the way we had to stop at the Dam Dam to take a picture of Hayden's name. I think the kids were so excited just to be out of the car. Well, I was too. This is in Page AZ which is the halfway point more or less. We found THE best Mexican Restaurant there. It is officially my favorite and I can't even remember the name...oops. I do remember it had a sign outside saying the best tequilas in town, - that is not why it is my favorite by the way. Our trip was cut short by my Grandpa Arch passing away. I am planning on making a special post for him with a slide show. He lived a wonderful life and is a great man. I am sad but so grateful that he is in a wonderful place doing so much more than he was able to do here. My Grandma Dell has been amazing through it all. She said she is mad at him for leaving her behind. She really misses him.

Man o Man! I was behind last month and now it is even worse. So Joshy turned ONE on April 7th. It was kinda uneventful but we do have a few pics to commemorate the day. As you can see below he was pretty excited about the whole thing.

He enjoyed his B-day cake a little more than Hayden enjoyed his first cake but I have yet to see one of my kids just dig in, cremate, and actually EAT it. He made a mess and then asked for milk.

What a cute little guy. He does so many cute little things lately. I think our favorite is when he sings in his crib at night. Whenever Rick or I go in to lay down by Hayden and sing him a song, Joshy always joins in. We can hear him still singing even after we have left the room. He said - Grandma - the other day and Hayden was so excited. He called her immediatley and said, "Joshy said Grandma...it was DARLING!" I was laughing so hard at how Hayden said "darling" that I was crying. How did he learning that word anyway? It's not like I walk around saying that about Rick or anything....maybe Babe....but not darling! Joshy is also getting a lot more brave. He will let go of things and try to walk. The funniest thing is to see him climbing onto chairs or onto Hayden's trike. He is such a monkey.

Okay, now it is Joshy's turn. Last night he took his first steps! He has been reluctant to walk, even with me holding his hands. He loves to "walk" around the furniture and stand up by himself. Occasionally he will let go - without realizing it - and wobble for a minute. The look on his face is pretty funny when that happens - Its like "Oh no, what is going on?!" So Rick and I were sitting on the floor and Joshy came crawling over. I picked him up and helped him walk to Rick. He was getting lots of encouragement - even from Hayden. On the trip back, Rick let go of his hands and he took two steps before he face planted! Well, not really. I caught him before he fell on his face. I am so excited that he is learning new things.

We are SO pleased with Hayden. He gave his first talk in Primary today and did a fantastic job. He talked about Jesus - that he loves Him, He died for us, He helps us to be good, He teaches us how we can live with Him and Heavenly Father again. Then he decided he wanted to sing "I am a Child of God." People from the hallway peeked in to see him. (Opening exercises for Primary is in the chapel) People were getting teary-eyed. I was up there helping him and it was hard to hold back my emotions. I am so grateful that Hayden loves Jesus. I love the special spirit that children have. I am SO happy to be Hayden's mom. Today was definitely one of those days that gets you through the OTHER days!!

My new career

So today I started my modeling debut. Too bad it only lasted a couple of hours. My friend Brita asked if I would be interested in helping out one of her friends by modeling a dress at her booth in Costco. She would let me keep the dress as compensation for my time (and my good looks!) It turned out to be really fun and I LOVE her dresses. She does a great job. So last night I decided to see how the boys would do sleeping in the same room. I planned it all to work out perfectly. I put Joshy to bed first and he was almost asleep when Hayden burst into "my new room." I thought - okay, I will just put Hayden to bed and they can fall asleep together.....HA HA HA! So when Joshy saw Hayden in there he stood up in his crib and just started laughing and that got Hayden going too. I went in and got mad at Hayden and told him to be quiet and laid Joshy back down and then left. Joshy stood back up and started playing with the curtains which Hayden thought looked like fun , so he joined in. Rick and I went in and moved the crib away from the window and got mad at Hayden - again- and left again. Joshy started crying really hard and through the baby monitor I heard Hayden say - It's okay Joshy, I am here. It's Hayden. It's okay, don't cry. It's me, Hayden. So, that was really cute! I couldn't be mad for very long. I wish I could say it got better after that. Finally after 2 and 1/2 hours they were both asleep...whew!

3's Day

So Hayden and I were talking this morning and I said something to him about it being Tuesday today. He said, "No mom! It's not 2's day, it is 3's day! Pretty cute!

He is also into telling stories about Littlefoot (Land Before Time) and all his friends. He tells me bedtime stories. Tonight he said - So, Littlefoot was walking and walking and walking and finally he found his friends and they started painting on the rocks with smashed up fruit and then there was an "earthshake" and the rocks fell down and then there was sand and the "earthshakes" stopped and there were no more and that is the End.

This is addicting!

I don't know what the heck I am doing but here we go! Rick told me about this - probably a year ago - but who knew it was so easy? Thanks to my cuz April I found the courage to check it out and was pleasantly surprised. Goodbye journal - no more blowing dust off every 6 months to write in you. Goodbye guilt - I am NOT a scrapbooker. This is going to be so fun!
